The late professor Martin C. Battestin ’48 was incredibly active at Peddie. He was academically gifted, a scholarship student, class president, member of gold key, football player, baseball captain and school monitor. He graduated fifth in his class at Peddie and, four years later, graduated fifth from Princeton University. He credits his educators and his father, the late Martin A. Battestin, for his success. In his revocable living trust, the senior Martin revised his created a charitable remainder trust for the benefit of his son, and daughter-in-law, Ruthe. Eventually the balance will pass to three charities, including one-third to Peddie for the purpose of establishing The Martin C. Battestin Scholarship Fund.

"During my four years at Peddie, which happened to coincide with the last four years of Head of School Dr. Wilbour Eddy Saunders, I could not have received a better education or a better example of what true character is," said the professor, who joined the Bell Society in 2005 through a bequest for Peddie.
